PS2 The Sims 2 review:
4 stars (stands on its own two feet) - As someone who recently purchased the Sims 2 on Amazon, and has played it and some of the older PC and console versions, I have to say I think this game is pretty darn good. I recognize that in comparison to Sims 2 for PC, it has some limitations- but what else could you expect? Consoles ARE limited, but considering the game was originally designed for a completely different medium, I think it is very successful it its own right, and frankly, a lot of fun to play.
The game playing is far more textured and rich than "Bustin' Out" or "The Urbz". First of all, the creation of a greater motivating force, whether creative, social, etc., adds a whole new dimension to Sims and their relationships. Whereas in the past, a series of actions always created the same result, now players will find that their Sims, no matter how 'correctly' guided, will be rejected by loved ones, paint horrible portraits, or make inedible meals that make other Sims grumpy. Conversely, you may find your Sim succeeding easily or becoming popular with hardly any effort. Such is the nature of Sims 2.
I have never been a Sims player that found the fashion, decorating, or building aspects of the game to be tantamount to goal-achieving, but the new game has more objects with lots of different interactions, a clothes option menu that is sure to absorb hours of your attention, and plenty of new building options. I could see how building houses or changing clothes endlessly would lead to some repeats, but achieving success for your Sim will definitely prove interesting enough to make up for it.
I think, overall, this game is worth the price tag. Diehard Simmers who scrutinize every aspect of the game, and compare it to the PC version, are bound to be a little disappointed. But as someone who eagerly anticipated the arrival of the Sims 2 for Ps2 (meaning, was on the waiting list for a month!), I can say with total enthusiasm that this is a game you, your kids, or your spouse will enjoy, in many different ways. Don't be discouraged by the naysayers- it's a worthy investment and is sure to provide hours of that god-like creative control we Simmers love!
1 stars (MAXIS, Why did you do this????) - The Sims 2 is an incredible game! The PC version, that is.
But the Playstation 2 version? Guess what? This is NOT the Sims2.
No matter what the title may be, this is an unbelievable farce.
Let me tell you this for a fact; Sims 2 on PS2 is complete rubbish. There have been plenty of products that I have ridiculed on Amazon but I have always been aware that they are only my opinions and everyone has different tastes.
But I want anyone who is considering this game to know that what I am telling you about it is not an opinion.It is a straight fact.This game is... (a word Amazon will probably block, that starts with c and ends with p and has 4 letters)
It is nothing like the real Sims 2, and it is less interesting than any other SIms game ever.
The Create A Sim area involves a few small drawings of tops, skirts and pants.Apparently you can be a fashion designer!Oh sure, long sleeves or short sleeves?Collar up or collar down?How exciting.
The body and face maker is lesser than even the first Sims, you won't be able to see what you are doing anyway and no matter how you "morph" them, they stay looking the same.Plus, they don't even look real.They are ugly.
Story mode?Forget it. How fun it is to fulfill your sims needs that include Take A Shower. (Not!)
All while your ridiculous looking sim runs around like a lunatic as the useless creation that it is.
Free play mode?What the hell?? The SIms 2 is supposed to be about creating family trees.They can not even have children!!!
There are about 2 familes (but they aren't really families, there are no actual families) and there's space for you to create two more lots of roommates.
The build mode looked like a migrainne, while the buy mode was absolutely pathetic, with teensy child-like drawings.Very few too.
Thsi game is expensive but reeks of amateurishness. You will have more fun with a 2 dollar toy.
(And please note that this review is coming from an extreme Sims fan)
Maxis needs to aplogize to anyone who waited for The Sims 2 to come to console, and anyone who spent money for or recieved this ghastly piece of cow dung.
I have really really liked the Maxis gang for a while, very grateful for what they have done with the original Sims 2.
But now, Maxis, you owe us. Big time. To start with, can I have my money back?
It baffles me why they have made such an honestly horrible game.Do not buy it!
If you have been dying to play the Sims 2, I suggest the computer game.I know it has steep system requirements but I managed to purchase a new computer and I don't have much money.SO it can be done, if you want the (real) SIms 2 as badly as I did.
The computer game is truly fantastic but the console version is a nightmare created in the bowels of Hell.
3 stars (What time is it now?) - HelloThis review is limited by the fact that I have Only 2 other SIMS console games (Bustin out & Urbz)...(on GC) to compare it too.Always best to rent first, right! So now im kicking my own a$$ and thinking (hopeing) it will get better.-The sims look like a meld of bustin out/urbs leaning heavily to the urbz but not as pretty.-Create a sim..ahh yeah ok, Choose from a male or female (adult sims only) and spend time while the game tosses some random sims at you with pics of their parents and grand parents at you. THAT IS THE DNA part! oooooh!! -Once U chose it then You can edit the sims body face and color, chest hair or no chest hair (male) -You can alter features by way of a sliding button. then a morph face and body (Slob or urbi stud). I find these slides not as nice to use as the simsBO version as it seemed to provide more variety.-In sims bustin out i had a sim that looked laura ingales character, carol burnett (almost) and one that looked like the lead character darien from the series InvisibleMan... and some that resembled other actors or friends and so on, as you could choose the features in a FASTer per feature manner. all i get in Sims 2 are morphy Urbites. -Yes These sims2 for ps2 look like Urbies, urbie hair and not a great range in color choice in hair or clothes.I was hoping that there would be improvements in the SBO...Um what is that? SBO it had more hair color choices.It is Like EA has treated gamers like Mushrooms... Hee hee "Here U go ITS GOING TO BE GREAT OPEN WIDE!, is 3-6 colors good enough?.. NO , TOUGH! eat em!So you know how to grow mushrooms?! Right! THEY KEEP THEN IN THE DARK AND FEED THEM.....SSSssss.hhmm Isnt it a fact that gamers pay money to be told what to do by the items they have purchased. NOW that IS FUN U bet.SORRY, oops , its just that i hate looking at a house my character cant walk to next door, a beach that my sim cant even dip her toe in. Best bet is DONT get you hopes up, that way you will be tinkeled pink by the big save diamond. or the few choices you get...Dance for joy at the absence of the childrens voices and watching them stomp their sandcastles as they did in SBO So you wont have to cry for the sim baby that was hauled off the social workersim because you let babe cry a river.-You want an alien? You got it, you just make it. give your sim green skin.-AS for The clothing is selected by Under shirt, shirt, jacket, pants skirts shoes.Clothing.. AHHHHHHH!!!! Jus makem as nekked as you can or pick the 1st thing off the rack or better take what the cpu gives themm.... or if you have TIME check out all the...-YES tatoos, mostly the same odd darksh urbi kind.-jewelry with a few color choices,, uhm thats 2 choices on average. -Clother are sharper looking but NOT as varied as SBO?. -Clothes that look urbie but not as nice as the urbz clothes save for a few.Your COLOR choices range from 2-6 may t some a few more.. OOOOOH!-Now you can change the legnth on some items like skirts pants and sleaves, and choose between 2 collar styles on some. The shoes look like what my cat Ralphed on my bed compared to the bustin out shoes and the urbz fancyfoot wear.-Yes you can layer the tops and such...ah that makes u for everything....I made the mistake of clicking on a wardrobe and it took me to the same clothing choice area... OH GOOD LORD NO,,, so i opted not to change her clothes and it took 20 seconds in the load time after it saved and returned me to the room. -All this is not quite as slow and lumbarpuncture painfull as Urbz but SADLY not nice and quick like SBO.Load times and save times..... (make a pee stop and do your taxes?)So it takes more time to choose from less to dress your limited simi.. OH this was a let down for me but may be a Great thing for you.-You can choose your sims Zodi sign and if they are tidy or messy and so on (as in SbO) but when you play and have them read a book, when done my sim just thows the book on the floor rather than putting it back as they did in SBO.I find this a was of time to have to tell them to pick up a book.The interactions menu kinda like urbz as in how they are listed in bars at the side and not as easy to read compared to... yes SBO.I was looking to buy a drain so there would not be puddles everywhere after dishwashing and showers but it was not on the list... CRAP! spend/waste more time pond moping!You can choose from food that is in your fridge and make/cook some food but as usual you have to buy the fridge and then the items....you start off in story mode at a house with a fridge but you have no $ so then you figure out what to do he he he "hey bob what you making?"It takes MUCH MORE time to get somthing done .. so if you dont mind paying someone like EA to waste some more of you time and tell you what to do,, then HEY Why Not!I will play it more and tap my ruby slippers together and say.... "I only payed $44CAD plus tax and there is no place like......" :-) |
